用法

children under five years of age も children less than five years old も「5 歳未満」の意味になる. 「10 キロメートル以下の距離」を a distance of under ten kilometers といっても日常的にはさしつかえないが, 正確には a distance of ten kilometers or less という.

用例

気温はセ氏10度以下である. The temperature is below 10° C. それは 1 万円以下では出来ない. It will cost at least 10,000 yen. この規定に違反する者は 3 か月以下の禁錮刑に処せられる.
