解説
A user interface element in a Web Parts application that an end user can click to perform actions such as closing, minimizing, restoring, editing, or deleting a Web Parts control. Developers can also add custom verbs to controls. Web Parts verbs are based on the System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.WebPartVerb class.

プログラム言語であるCOBOLにおいて文で指示する,具体的行動部分のこと.自然言語の動詞と同じように使われるため,この名で呼ばれる.
COBOLでは文によって,その行動やそれに伴うデータを指定する.手続き部で使う文の形式は,まず動詞が置かれ,次いでこれを修飾する語が続く.
例えば,ADD x TO y GIVING z (xとyを加えた結果をzとしなさい)では,"ADD"が動詞になり,それ以降の部分はこれを修飾する語となる.
このように,英語などの自然言語と用法がほぼ一致している.また,上記の例で見られるような"GIVING"といった語は,自然言語では副詞に相当するが,COBOLにおいては副詞とは呼ばれない.

Verbs compose a fundamental category of words in most languages. In an English clause, a verb forms the head of the predicate of the clause. In many languages, verbs uniquely conjugate for tense and aspect.
