Baba Yorichikaとは 意味・読み方・使い方

Baba Yorichika (馬場 頼周^?, ? - 1546) was a samurai who lived during the Sengoku period of Japan. He was a retainer of the Shōni clan of western Kyūshū, specifically Hizen Province. He was secretly contacted by a vengeful Ōuchi Yoshitaka—who suffered from the power of the growing Ryūzōji Iekane, 17th and current head of the Ryūzōji clan, the Shōni's head retainer family—in 1544, who asked him to slay Iekane and desolate the Ryūzōji by all employable means. Consenting to this request, for the sake of his reputation, Yorichika used the reasoning that as Iekane was growing in power and, being retired, is subtle before any means of attack that could nullify his threat of independence from the Shoni, in order to assault the household of Iekane that same year. Yorichika killed Ryūzōji Chikaie—18th and current head of Ryūzōji—but was unable to bring down Iekane, who fled to Chikugo Province after such an unexpected incident of treachery. However, Yorichika's aspirations came to ruin the following year, as Iekane returned to Hizen with the backing of Kamachi Akimori, desolating Yorichika's forces and putting an end to his life, even though Iekane himself would die of old age the following year.
