The narrative has scrambled the facts about Mr. Walker's bus companies.
Morgan Walker Sr. started in the passenger-transportation business with a Reo Speedwagon bus with eight seats.
In 1920 he founded the Interurban Transportation Company, based in Alexandria, Louisiana,
which eventually ran from Baton Rouge to Shreveport via Alexandria, from Baton Rouge to Beaumont (in Texas), and from Little Rock (in Arkansas) to Lake Charles via Alexandria.
About 1940 his company became a member of the Trailways trade association, which was then named as the National Trailways Bus System.
Thus the Interurban Transportation Company became known also as the Interurban Trailways.
In 1945 Walker bought two other regional highway-coach carriers --
a smaller one and a much larger one -- each of which was already also a member of the Trailways association --
the Bordelon Lines (also called the Bordelon Trailways), based in New Orleans,
running from New Orleans to Shreveport via Alexandria,
and the Tri-state Motor Transit Company (also called the Tri-state Trailways), based in Shreveport,
running from Memphis to Nashville (both in Tennessee), from Texarkana (on the state line between Texas and Arkansas) to Birmingham (in Alabama),
from Shreveport to Meridian (in Mississippi), and from Saint Louis (in Missouri) to New Orleans, to Gulfport and Biloxi (both in Mississippi), and to Mobile (in Alabama),
plus throughout a large network of feeder and regional routes.
The resulting firm, a huge one, became named as the Southern Bus Lines (also called the Southern Trailways), also based in Alexandria.
In 1949 the Transcontinental Bus System, based in Dallas, Texas -- using the brand name, trade name, or service name of the Continental Trailways --
bought Walker's Southern Bus Lines (the Southern Trailways) and renamed it as the Continental Southern Lines.
Walker continued as the president of the Continental Southern Lines.
Thus Morgan became a director of the TCO Industries, Inc., the umbrella parent firm of the Transcontinental Bus System (that is, the Continental Trailways).
The Continental Trailways eventually became the single largest member company in the National Trailways association --
the second largest highway carrier in the USA -- second only to Greyhound -- even without the smaller remainder of the Trailways system.
In 1968 the Holiday Inns of America, based in Memphis, Tennessee, bought the TCO Industries and began operating it as a subsidiary.
Holiday Inns renamed the Continental Trailways as the Trailways, Inc., also called TWI.
In 1979 Holiday Inns sold TWI to a private investor, Henry Lea Hillman Sr., said to be the richest man in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
In 1987 Hillman sold TWI to the Greyhound Lines, Inc., also called GLI, also based in Dallas, Texas --
which in the same year had recently bought the core Greyhound highway-coach operating business from The Greyhound Corporation,
which older (original) Greyhound parent firm later became renamed as the Dial Corporation, then the Viad Corporation.
GLI merged TWI into its Greyhound operations.
Thus some of Mr. Walker's bus operations continue to operate as unrecognizable parts of the Greyhound Lines.
