The River Beane is a tributary of the River Lea. It rises near Cromer in the hills east of Stevenage in Hertfordshire but has been adversely affected by over-exploitation of the chalk aquifer in its upper reaches. It flows through Walkern and on through Watton-at-Stone, Stapleford and Waterford until it reaches the River Lea at Hartham Common in Hertford.
