Koottanad is a small town in Palakkad District, Kerala, in South India. It is located 65 k.m away from the city of Palakkad and 32 k.m. from Thrissur, on the road between Guruvayoor and Palakkad. It is connected by road to other parts of Kerala and the nearest Rly. station is Pattambi 9 k.m. away. Bharathapuzha Nila Riverflows through Thrithala, 5 km away. Koottanad is famous for its festivals: the Koottanad Nercha of the Kottanad Juma Masjid and the Poorams of Amakkavu Bhagawathy Temple and Elavathukkal Bhagavathy temple are held in February—March every year.
