A dioxirane is a molecule containing a three-membered ring composed of one carbon and two oxygens. Somewhat unstable, they are used in organic synthesis as oxidizing reagents. The only dioxirane in common use is dimethyldioxirane (DMDO), the oxirane derived from acetone.
