From Hindustani مَسِیحی (masīhī) / मसीही (masīhī), from Classical Persian مَسِیحِی (masīhī), from Arabic مَسِيحِيّ (masīḥiyy), from مَسِيح (masīḥ, “messiah, Christ”) + ـِيّ (-iyy, “relating to”, nisba suffix).
This is the term preferred by Pakistani Christians, because the more commonly-used word, Isai, has become offensive, as it is related to stereotypes of Christians as menial workers.
