In molecular biology miR-375 microRNA is a short RNA molecule. MicroRNAs function to regulate the expression levels of other genes by several mechanisms. miR-375 is specifically expressed in the pancreatic islets and brain. miR-375 is found on human chromosome 2 in between the CRYBA2 and CCDC108 genes. The miR-375 gene has been knocked out in a mouse and it was found to be hyperglycemic. It also showed a higher number of pancreatic alpha-cells, higher plasma glucagon levels, and increased gluconeogenesis and liver glucose output.
