Per Breeze (1998), from the Proto-Brythonic equivalent of Welsh iesin (“sparking, shining”) (cf. Taliesin). Otherwise, derived from the same root (cf. Welsh ias) with a diminutive suffix, or else from 古期英語 ġēose (“gush”).

The Ouseburn is a river which flows through Newcastle upon Tyne into the River Tyne. The river gives its name to the Ouseburn electoral ward.
