Panitia Persiapan Kemerdekaan Indonesia (PPKI) is the Indonesian word for "Committee for Indonesian Independence Preparation". It was founded on August 7, 1945 as a continuation from BPUPKI. This organization was chaired by Soekarno. Independence was announced on August 17, 1945, two days after Japan surrendered to the Allied Forces in the Pacific War.
