Anchery {അഞ്ചേരി}in Puthuppally Panchayat in the Kottayam district of Kerala, South India.Situated 10 km away from kottayam Railway Station, via kottayam-puthupally-karukachal bus route. As per the government records, this region is known as Pariyaram. However the name Anchery is known to this region because of Anchery Puthiyakavu Devi Temple and/or the Anchery family. Anchery name is originated from the Malayalam word Anchu (five), and Cheri(Division or area of land). The present day population of this village are mostly Hindus and Christians. Anchery Kudumbam(Family) is the descendants of Anchery Punnoose Mappila servant of the king of Thekkumcore, in the 16th century. He migrated and settled in Anchery from Bharananganam near Palai, Kerala. (Reference: Anchery Kudumba Charithram -history of the Anchery family). The family members are now scattered all around the world. On May 1 of each year, there is a gathering of family members (Anchery Kudumbayogam) to meet and get-together.
