Archaeomythology refers to the study of mythology through the discipline of archaeology. An example is the discovery of the city of Troy when, in 1870, Heinrich Schliemann used Homer's epic Iliad to locate it. Archaeomythology is very useful for bringing a human viewpoint to archaeological artefacts and is being increasingly used by archaeologists and historians as a viable window into the past.
