For most spacecraft missions the "perturbing forces" caused by the oblateness of the Earth, the gravitational attraction from Sun/Moon, the solar radiation pressure and the air drag must be counteracted by orbit maneuvers to keep the spacecraft in the desired orbit. For a geostationary spacecraft one needs for example orbit correction maneuvers in the order of 40–50 m/s per year to counteract the gravitational force from Sun/Moon which perturbs the orbital plane moving it away from the equatorial plane of the Earth.
