Strafbatalion (English: Penal Battalion) were Wehrmacht punishment units created during Second World War for soldiers convicted by court martial and sentenced to a deferred execution. If a soldier survived his sentence, he would be deemed 'fit to fight' and returned to the field with the 'rights' of a combat soldier.
