「store」は、物を安全に保管することを指す一般的な表現である。物理的な場所に限らず、データの保管にも使われる。
「store」は、「in a safe place」(安全な場所に)、 「for future use」(将来の使用のために)といった表現と一緒に使われることが多い。
1. I store my important documents in a safe place.(私は重要な書類を安全な場所に保管する)
2. The data is stored in the cloud.(データはクラウドに保管されている)
3. We need to store food for the winter.(冬のために食料を保管する必要がある)
「put away」は、物をその適切な場所に戻す、または片付けるという意味合いが強い。日常的な片付けや整理整頓を指すことが多い。
「put away」は、「the dishes」(皿)、 「the laundry」(洗濯物)、 「the toys」(おもちゃ)といった日常的な物と一緒に使われることが多い。
1. Please put away your toys after playing.(遊んだ後はおもちゃを片付けてください)
2. I always put away my clothes after laundry.(洗濯後はいつも服を片付ける)
3. She put away the dishes after dinner.(彼女は夕食後に皿を片付けた)
「stow」は、特に旅行や運送の際に、荷物を安全に収納するという意味合いが強い。また、船や飛行機などの乗り物での収納を指すことが多い。
「stow」は、「luggage」(荷物)、 「in the overhead compartment」(上のコンパートメントに)、「in the trunk」(トランクに)といった表現と一緒に使われることが多い。
1. Please stow your luggage in the overhead compartment.(荷物は上のコンパートメントに収納してください)
2. He stowed his suitcase in the trunk of the car.(彼はスーツケースを車のトランクに収納した)
3. We need to stow the equipment before we set sail.(出航前に装備を収納する必要がある)
