Chamarasa was an eminent Virashaiva poet unsurpassed in the Kannada literature, during the Vijayanagar Empire, a powerful empire in Southern India of the 13th and 14th centuries. A competitor of another famous Brahmin Kannada poet Kumara Vyasa, he was patronised by King Deva Raya II and his "Prabhulinga Leele" in 1430 AD described Allama Prabhu an early apostle of Veerashaivism.
