The Chengdu dialect (simplified Chinese: 成都话; traditional Chinese: 成都話; pinyin: Chéngdū Huà) is the dialect of Sichuanese Mandarin spoken in the city of Chengdu, Sichuan, China. It is a branch of Southwestern Mandarin. The term 'Chengdu dialect" is used to refer to all dialects spoken in all districts and counties of Chengdu city. As Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province and an important central city, the Chengdu dialect influences those spoken in surrounding areas. It is the most representative dialect of Southwestern Mandarin and Sichuanese Mandarin, and is used widely in Sichuan Opera and other artistic fields of the province.
