From 中期英語 coperas, coperose (“any metallic sulfate”), from Medieval Latin cuprosa directly or via Old French coperose, from Medieval Latin aqua cuprosa (“cupreous water”), from Latin cuprum (“copper”) + -osa (“-ose: forming related adjectives”). Fanciful derivations from cupreous terms involving Latin rosa (“rose”) are mistaken.

使用する際の注意点

Despite the etymological and still apparent connection to copper sulphates, the usual specific reference to green iron sulphates in English has been continual from the earliest attestations, having already arisen in Greek and Latin from its greater general utility in dyeing and leather tanning, the mixture of copper and iron salts in naturally occurring sources, and general confusion of copper and iron pyrites.
