The Rt Rev John Edward Mercer (1857–1922) was the Bishop of Tasmania from 1902 until 1914. Educated at Rossall School and Lincoln College, Oxford and ordained in 1880 his first post was as a curate at Tanfield. He was then Missioner at his old school before two Manchester incumbencies.
