From Oscan 𐌅𐌋𐌖𐌖𐌔𐌀 (vluusa), presumably related to fluo (“to flow”), but the s remains unexplained; possibly introduced through rhotacism. The river names Flosis (modern Potenza), Flussorius, Fiastra, and Flesor could be related.
