Jacques Chereau, the brother and pupil of François Chereau, was born at Blois in 1688. He engraved portraits and historical subjects, and was little inferior to his brother, but he did not execute many plates, having quitted the graver to follow the business of a printseller. He came to England, but not meeting with much encouragement, he returned to Prance, and died in Paris in 1776. The following are his best works:
