Kilcornan is a parish in County Limerick. It is about seventeen Kilometers west of Limerick City on the N69. According to the 2006 census of Ireland the population of Kilcornan was 671, an increase of 39 since 2002.[1] According to Lewis's Topographical Dictionary the earliest identifiable settlements in Kilcornan was Danish.[2] The lands changed hands several times during the Tudor era. A large part of the parish was granted Hardress Waller, one of Cromwell's generals. Curraghchase, the ancestral home of Aubrey de Vere is in Kilcornan. More recently Kilcornan has been known as the birthplace of mountaineer Ger McDonnell. There is a Catholic church and a National School on the main road with a public house and shop. Apart from Curraghchase the next most visited tourism site in Kilcornan is the Celtic Park and Gardens. There is also a noted go kart track. also the school holds around 83 students and 7 faculty {teachers}.
