MFS Investment Management (MFS) is an American global asset manager, formerly known as Massachusetts Financial Services. It is owned by Sun Life, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts and maintains offices worldwide. MFS was founded in 1924 and is one of the oldest asset management companies in the world and is credited with pioneering the mutual fund. The company has survived numerous depressions, bear markets, employee lay-offs and a Security and Exchange Commission investigation. As of 2011 it had 50 funds with $6 trillion dollars invested and $238.9 billion in assets under management.
