Red John was a fictional character and leading antagonist on the CBS crime drama The Mentalist. He was a serial killer who murdered many people in the states of California, Nevada, and Mexico including the wife and daughter of protagonist Patrick Jane five years prior to the action of the first episode, becoming Jane's nemesis, to whose punishment Jane has dedicated himself.
