From Ancient Greek *ἀνατομία (*anatomía), a word which does not appear in any extant Ancient Greek texts, and is known only through a quotation from a Latin text (authored by Caelius Aurelianus), from ἀνατομή (anatomḗ, “dissection”), from ἀνατέμνω (anatémnō, “to cut up”), from ἀνά (aná, “up”) + τέμνω (témnō, “to cut”).
