1. (chiefly literature) Synonym of continuer, a person who continues the work of another.

   The History of the Patriarchs of Alexandria is traditionally ascribed to the 10th-century Severus of Hermopolis, but it contains appendices by various continuators that carry its narrative into the 19th century.
