From 中期英語 monelich, from 古期英語 mōnlīċ (“lunar”), from Proto-West Germanic *mānalīk (“pertaining to the moon, moon-like”), equivalent to moon + -ly. Cognate with Middle Dutch maenlijc (“moonly, lunar”), German mondlich (“lunar”).
