Polarography is a subclass of voltammetry where the working electrode is a dropping mercury electrode (DME) or a static mercury drop electrode (SMDE)., useful for its wide cathodic range and renewable surface. It was invented by Jaroslav Heyrovský, who was for this invention awarded by Nobel prize in 1959.
