メシル酸イマチニブ（gleevec）による治療で効果が得られなかった消化管間質腫瘍（gist）の治療に用いられる薬物。sutentは進行した腎がんの治療にも用いられ、他の種類のがんの治療についても研究されている。チロシンキナーゼ阻害薬の一種、および血管内皮成長因子（vegf）受容体阻害薬の一種であり、血管新生阻害薬の一種でもある。「su011248」、「su11248」、「sunitinib（スニチニブ）」、「sunitinib malate（リンゴ酸スニチニブ）」とも呼ばれる。
