tanmani (plural tanmanis)

1. A type of traditional Indian jewelry that can include necklaces, earrings, and sets. Tanmani can be made from a variety of materials, including brass, silver, and gold-plated silver and may feature pearls, semi-precious stones, or zircons.
   • 1884, Sir James MacNabb Campbell, Gazetteer of the Bombay Presidency, volume XXII Dháwár, Government Central Press, page 65:

     The neck ornaments are tanmani or beads of life, a light pearl necklace, kanthi a gold chain, and gopa or protector, chains of rich gold, navaratnada kanthi or the nine-jewelled string of nine kinds of precious stones, multin of pearl, vajrad of diamonds, and kempin of rubies.

   • 1913, Unreported Printed Judgments of the Bombay High Court, 1884-1887, volume 5, page 7:

     Samvat 1937, Akhad Sud 9th, paid Rs. 28 in cash and received the earring (Tanmani).
