The 2010 San Diego Chargers season was the franchise's 41st season in the National Football League, and their 51st overall. After a 13–3 record dissolved into a disappointing loss to the New York Jets in the divisional round of the 2009-10 NFL Playoffs, the Chargers had high hopes of winning their fifth consecutive AFC West division title and contending for a Super Bowl championship. However, after a Week 16 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, they were eliminated from postseason contention, and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2005 despite the #1 offense and defense in the NFL. (Ironically, Football Outsiders calculated that the Chargers had the worst special teams ranking in the league in 2010, and the fifth-worst from 1993-2010.) The Chargers also suffered their first home blackouts since their four-win season of 2003.
