Colin Welford is an English conductor, orchestrator and music teacher currently living in the United States. He has received degrees from Oxford University (Organ Scholar, Brasenose College) , The Royal College of Music, and the University of Miami in Musicology and Orchestral Conducting. He was a faculty member of the New World School of the Arts in Miami, Florida where he led the Orchestral Department and taught orchestration, and at the University of Florida and Florida International University where he was a professor in orchestration. He has conducted widely in Europe and the United States as a freelance Opera and Ballet conductor, and as staff conductor at the English National Ballet. He was the Music Director of the original production of The Fix (Dir. Sam Mendes) at the Donmar Warehouse, London and Music Director (and later Supervisor) of The Who's Tommy in Europe. Notably, he was the Music Supervisor and Assistant Music Producer of Disney's The Lion King on Broadway and for eleven subsequent productions worldwide. He has orchestrated and arranged a number of award-winning solo vocal albums and conducted orchestral albums which have gone Platinum in Germany and Holland. He has arranged and orchestrated extensively for orchestra and choral ensembles, The New York Pops orchestra amongst others. He is currently the Music Director of the award-winning Chicago production of Wicked at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theatre in Chicago's Theater District.
