Combe Downとは 意味・読み方・使い方

Combe Down is a village suburb of Bath, England in the Bath and North East Somerset unitary authority within the ceremonial county of Somerset. Combe Down sits on a ridge above and about 1.5 miles to the south of Bath city centre. "Combe" or "coombe" is a West Country word meaning a steep-sided valley. The area encompassing present-day Combe Down includes the old stone-built village consisting of predominantly 18th century and early 19th century gentlemen's villas and quarrymen's cottages; the post-war Foxhill estate of former council houses; and various other private housing along both sides of North Road and Bradford Road. In the 1950s Combe Down village was incorporated into Bath to enable the development of the Foxhill estate.
