「pharmacy」は、医薬品の販売や処方箋の調剤を行う場所を指す。また、医薬品学や薬剤師の専門職を指すこともある。一般的に、イギリス英語では「pharmacy」が主に使われる。

「drugstore」は、主にアメリカ英語で、医薬品を販売する店舗を指す。ただし、日用品や化粧品、スナックなども販売していることが多い。一部の店舗では、処方箋の調剤も行っている。
