Asaga was a mid-9th century Digambara Jain poet of Jain literature as well as early Kannada literature, as he wrote both in Sanskrit and Kannada languages. He is most known for his extant works in Sanskrit, including Vardhaman Charitra (Life of Vardhman Mahavir), an epic poetry work which runs in 18 cantos and written in 853 CE, the first Sanskrit language biography of 24th and last Thirthankara of Jainism, Mahavira; in all he has over eight works in Sanskrit to his credit. In Kannada none of his works including Karnataka Kumarasambhava Kavya, the Kannada language version of Kalidas's epic poem, Kumārasambhava have survived.
