語源

Probably from Gaulish *garunda (“shallows, riverbank”) or "rough, grassy," from Proto-Celtic *garwos << Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰer- (“to bristle”). Or, possibly from an Aquitanian hydronym meaning "stony river."

   • c. 52 BCE, Julius Caesar, Commentarii de Bello Gallico 1:

     Gallōs ab Aquītānīs Garumna flūmen, ā Belgīs Mātrona et Sēquana dīvidit.

     The river Garonne separates the Gauls from the Aquitanians, the Marne and the Seine from the Belgians.
