From anglicization/latinization of French Grenade upon the island's cession to the United Kingdom under the terms of the 1763 Treaty of Paris ending the Seven Years' War, from Spanish Granada and Los Granadillos on Spanish maps from at least the 1520s, from Granada in Spain, from Arabic غَرْنَاطَة (Ḡarnāṭa), originally a suburb of the city. Grenada (pronounced /ɡrɨˈneɪdə/ (
listen)) is an island country and Commonwealth Realm consisting of the island of Grenada and six smaller islands at the southern end of the Grenadines in the southeastern Caribbean Sea. Grenada is located northwest of Trinidad and Tobago, northeast of Venezuela, and southwest of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
