From an Oscan personal name, probably related to 𐌇𐌄𐌓𐌉𐌉𐌀𐌃 (heriiad, “he wants”) (compare Umbrian 𐌇𐌄𐌓𐌉 (heri)), from Proto-Italic *herjō (“to wish, want”). Probably influenced by Etruscan.
