Jacques Cartier (1491 – September 1, 1557) was a French explorer of Breton origin who claimed what is now Canada for France. He was the first European to describe and map the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the shores of the Saint Lawrence River, which he named "The Country of Canadas", after the Iroquois names for the two big settlements he saw at Stadacona (Quebec City) and at Hochelaga (Montreal Island).

Jacques-Cartier is a provincial electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It was created in 1853, and named after French explorer Jacques Cartier who discovered the Saint Lawrence Valley between 1534 and 1542 in part of what would become New France until 1760. The district's borders were last altered in 2001 and currently it is the only provincial electoral district in Quebec with an Anglophone absolute majority.
