Kallara is a small town in the Kottayam district in Kerala, India. Nearby villages also include Kaipuzha, Athirampuzha, Ayamkudy, Neendoor, Kurumulloor, Manjoor, and Vechoor. Kottayam is located 10 km south. The main Christian churches include the Syro Malabar St. Thomas Church (commonly referred to as Kallara Pazhayapalli or "old church") and the St. Mary's Church (commonly referred to as Puthanpalli or "new church"). St. Thomas Church celebrated its centennial in the year 2000, which coincided with elaborate festivities. The feast of the St. Thomas Church is celebrated on the Sunday after Easter every year, and is a major event of the town. Main schools include St. Thomas High School, NSS High School, and St. Thomas English Medium School.
