Perhaps of Celtic origin, from Proto-Celtic *lentos (“bend”), describing the bend in the Danube where the original Celtic settlement was placed, from Proto-Indo-European *lént-o-s (“flexible”), see also lentus (“flexible, sticky”), Lithuanian lentà (“board”).
