Sclerder Abbey is a Roman Catholic abbey at Looe in Cornwall, UK. The abbey is the home of an order of enclosed nuns, whose role is to pray for the Church and the wider world. The abbey was founded in 1843 by the Dames de la Retraite who left in 1852. Franciscan Recollects succeeded in 1858 until 1864; the Carmelites succeeded in 1864 until 1871. The Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary took up residence in 1904 until 1910. Minoresses from Rennes 1914-1920; Minoresses from Bullingham 1922-1981; Franciscans c.1925; Carmelites from Quidenham came in 1981 and are still active today. The abbey serves the wider Roaman Catholic community and a resident priest is located next to the abbey. Mass is said daily.
