From 中期英語 Cornwaile, Cornwayle, a modification of Cornwale (after Old French Cornuaille), from 古期英語 Cornwēalas (“Cornwall, inhabitants of Cornwall”), from Proto-Celtic *kornu (“horn”) + 古期英語 wealh (“stranger, foreigner”). Compare Wales/Welsh, Walloon, Gaul. Doublet of Cornouaille.

Cornwall (
/ˈkɔrnwɔːl/ or /ˈkɔrnwəl/; Cornish: Kernow [ˈkɛrnɔʊ]) is an area at the tip of the south-western peninsula of Great Britain, administered as a unitary authority and ceremonial county of England, within the United Kingdom. It is bordered to the north and west by the Celtic Sea , to the south by the English Channel, and to the east by the county of Devon, over the River Tamar. Including the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall has a population of 534,300, and covers an area of 3,563 km2 (1,376 sq mi). The administrative centre and only city is Truro. The geographical area of Cornwall also constitutes the Duchy of Cornwall.
