Texian is an archaic, mostly defunct 19th century demonym (or gentilic, a term commonly used to denote peoples of a certain geographical region) which defined a settler of current-day Texas, one of the southern states of the United States of America which borders the country of Mexico. The name was generally used for immigrants from the United States (including various United States territories that had yet achieved statehood) as well as from Europe. In addition to Texian, several other names were used including Texasian, Texican, and Texonian. Today, the term Texan is the prevailing demonym for citizens of the state of Texas.
