Borrowed through Oscan from Proto-Italic *tiβes-no- (“marsh, river”), possibly from Proto-Indo-European *teh₂- (“to flow, to melt”). However, compare Oscan 𐌕𐌉𐌚𐌀 (tifa, “hill”), related to Latin teba (“hill”).
