The transgenic soybean, also known as the recombinant soybean, genetically engineered soybean, or genetically modified soybean, is a soybean (Glycine max) that has had DNA introduced into it in a way other than the combination of male and female gametes. This process is carried out using “recombinant DNA (rDNA) technology.” This technology is not limited to producing only the transgenic soybean, but also is useful to produce genetically modified organisms (GMOs) of any plant, animal, or microbial variety. The soybean, however, is very versatile in its use, thus making it a popular subject of genetic modification.
