According to Visser, from dialectal (probably Doric) Ancient Greek Οὐλίξης (Oulíxēs, “Odysseus”), itself from a Pre-Greek source tentatively reconstructed by Beekes as *Od/lukeu. Compare Etruscan 𐌖𐌈𐌖𐌆𐌄 (uθuze) and Sicel Οὐλίξης (Oulíxēs).
Ulixēs m sg (genitive Ulixis or Ulixī or Ulixeī); third declension
Some insist that only Ulixēs is correct for Classical Latin and that the spelling Ulyssēs is incorrect; but the form Ulyssēs is not uncommon, especially in later periods.
Third-declension noun, singular only.
