Probably a denominative in -ō from a lost adjective, Proto-Italic *aizoskos (“demanding”) (see *isskō), or an s-derivative *aizos (“demand”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eys- (“to request, search”). Cognate with Old Armenian հայց (haycʻ) and possibly Umbrian eiscurent.
