1. (chemistry) A chain of twelve carbon atoms with three double bonds.

     Reaction run in presence of 2 mol equiv butadiene; trans-2-butene, oxtadienes and dodecatrienes are in the final product, but no diphenylmethane or phenylcyclohexane.

• Dodecatrienes vary in structure depending on the positions of the double bonds. The term is usually prefixed by three numbers, indicating the positions of those double bonds along the chain of carbon atoms: e.g. 2,6,10-dodecatriene.
